Barry is practically skipping into the office when he returns to work after his stint in prison. The smile is completely wiped off his face when he’s told to take an indefinite leave of absence by order of the Mayor. It’s not all bad though because this means he has extra time to find the remaining four metas from the bus. Their first lead takes Barry and Ralph to an old country bar in town, much to Ralph’s dismay due to his dislike of depressing country music. They find singer, Izzy Bowin and quickly experience her meta power – the ability to control soundwaves. Her powers work really similarly to Black Canary, just the waves come from her hands, and then later a super fiddle!! She doesn’t respond well to the two boys and scarpers off.
DeVoe is aware of Izzy’s location too and needs to work quickly in finding her as his new body is deteriorating fast due to all the dark matter he is now accumulating. The Flash catches up to Izzy later, along with The Elongated Man and Vibe and she hears them out. She believes that they want to help her, and then astonishes Barry when DeVoe turns up by hurting him with her powers. She’s quickly taken back to Flash HQ and is trained up in combat to be able to fight off DeVoe again.
Harry and Cecile do some bonding during this episode whilst he makes her a devise to block out other people’s thoughts. Harry is still feeling crappy that he can’t find a way to help defeat DeVoe, and he’s also missing his daughter. After finishing Cecile’s devise he realises that with some modifications, it could be used as a cerebral inhibitor to use against DeVoe, preventing him from projecting into new bodies. This is also the devise Savitar told Barry they would use to stop DeVoe. They all get very excited!
As things are looking up, DeVoe does his thing and stops Team Flash in their tracks. Party pooper!!! Izzy tries to use the cerebral inhibitor on him but it doesn’t work and Ralph is left to watch on, completely devastated that his new friend’s body has been taken. Once again DeVoe has transformed and now has seven different meta abilities. He even has the cheek to brag about not needing to use them all. Harry takes it pretty hard too.
The episode ends with a kind of race against time feeling over who is going to find the other metas first. Things aren’t looking promising for The Flash though as DeVoe is consistent in being one step ahead and having things fall exactly into place for him. Great episode, and a great new meta in Izzy. I really enjoyed Miranda MacDougall’s performance as Izzy and I’m hoping that DeVoe uses her as a vessel a while longer.
