An official image from the Wonder Woman film has been released, courtesy of EW, revealing the Amazon women of Themyscira.
Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, will focus on Princess Diana’s origins story and her transformation from a young women into one of the greatest warriors of all time. Raising and training the young Princess are three immortal women; Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) and two military aunt’s, General Antiope (Robin Wright) and her lieutenant, Menalippe. But this family doesn’t always see eye to eye, Hyppolyta wants to keep her daughter safe and away from the outside World, but Diana’s trainer, Antiope, wants to make sure she is prepared for what comes next…
“She is the only child they raised together,” director Jenkins tells EW. “And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.”
Jenkins and the films costume designer, Lindy Hemming (who worked on The Dark Knight) have nicely incorporated the comic book style of the Amazonians, in particular their wrist braces and awesome shows. “To me, they shouldn’t be dressed in armor like men,” Jenkins comments on the women’s battle wear. “It should be different. It should be authentic and real – and appealing to women.”
