Research reveals we’re a nation of supernatural believers with 29 per cent believing ghosts are real and one in five (20 per cent) claiming to have seen one.
Research released by Amazon Prime Video in celebration of the launch of paranormal comedy drama series, Truth Seekers, has uncovered the UK as a nation of supernatural believers, with almost a third (29 per cent) of those questioned stating they think ghosts ‘definitely and without question’ exist.
The study proves that seeing really is believing with one in five people (20 per cent) claiming to have seen a ghost with their own eyes and over one in ten (11 per cent) confirming they’ve seen a ghost in the past year.
Fifteen per cent of those questioned believe their house is haunted by spirits with one in eight (12 per cent) believing children’s toys to be the household item most likely to be “possessed”.
The findings also identified Newsham Park Hospital in Liverpool as the most haunted location in Great Britain based on 2020 research by the UK’s leading paranormal magazine, Haunted Magazine. The former orphanage has confirmed multiple eyewitness reports of ghostly childlike figures roaming the halls and unexplained apparitions of women appearing.

The research was commissioned by Amazon Prime Video via GingerComms to mark the launch of Truth Seekers on Friday 30th October; a supernatural comedy drama series about a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see.
Young people clearly have a strong affinity with the ‘other side’ as over half (56 per cent) of those aged 18-35 claimed to have seen something supernaturally mysterious in recent months. Only 30 per cent of those aged 55 and over agreed.
Women are also more likely to have witnessed something ghostly, with over a third (38 per cent) claiming they have seen a ghost or been spooked by something inexplicable, compared to just 29 per cent of men.
Research also uncovered that over a quarter (27 per cent) of respondents believe that life on other planets definitely exists and when it comes to supernatural powers, almost a quarter (23 per cent) of the nation is convinced they know someone with paranormal abilities, including telepathy or the power to communicate with the dead.
Brits have even gone as far as to practise witchcraft (7 per cent) and 10 per cent have tried to tap into supernatural planes. One in six young adults (16 per cent) even admitted to ‘casting a spell on an ex-lover’.
