Sony Pictures announced the new title and logo of the upcoming Marvel partnered Spider-Man film on Tuesday night when the studio hosted their annual panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. They officially confirmed the title as Spider-Man: Homecoming and released the following logo with a stylized version of Spidey’s mask replacing the o in homecoming. Anyone else think it’s rather Spider-Gwen esque? Check it out below!
Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman said the title is “both a high school reference, and a homecoming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe” after the reveal.
“Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said during the initial announcement in February 2015.
Following the release of the logo and title, Variety stated that “Oscar-nominee Michael Keaton (Batman, Birdman & Spotlight) is in early talks to play a villain in the Marvel and Sony co-production Spider-Man: Homecoming.” This announcement sparked the rumour that Keaton will be playing comics character Vulture, following Birdman I can’t help but picture him as that exact villain!
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for release on July 7, 2017 and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya in an undisclosed role.
