Last year, director David F. Sandberg brought a bit of old school warmth to the box office with the wonderfully fun coming-of-age comic book adaptation, Shazam.
The film was a box office hit, debuting with $53 million in North America and $102 million overseas, so DC quickly green-lit a sequel for November 4th, 2022. Writer Henry Gayden and producer Peter Safran were confirmed to return, alongside director David F. Sandberg.
With a spinoff headlining Shazam’s nemesis Black Adams, played by Dwayne Johnson, also in the works, it appears that the studio are very confident in expanding upon the character’s mythos.
According to The Illuminerdi, the sequel is set to begin filming in the spring of 2021, but this date could change depending on the current situation of Covid-19 cases in America.
Still, with the cast of both Shazam and Black Adam set to make an appearance at the highly anticipated DC FanDome event on August 22nd, I’m sure we’ll find out lots more about the films!
