Director Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has opened in the UK to the biggest 3-day weekend since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film, which introduces a brand new hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is currently sitting as the #1 film in the world, also breaking records over its Labor Day opening weekend in the US.
According to Comicbook.com, Shang-Chi is forecasted to have earned $71 million in its first three days in cinemas, and $83.5 million over the full holiday weekend.
As well as being a box office hit, the film has scooped a 92% fresh Rotten Tomatoes score and a 98% audience score, along with an A rating from CinemaScore.
Marvel Studios’ SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.
