Well this is exciting! Marvel Studios are reportedly in talks with 2002’s Spiderman director Sam Raimi to take over helming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, following original director Scott Derrickson’s exit due to creative reasons.
According to Variety, Derrickson will remain as an executive producer on the project. Talks will need to happen quickly though, as the sequel’s scheduled production start date is in May.
For me this is a great fit, considering Raimi helped launch the comic book genre almost twenty years ago with Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman series, with 2004’s Spider-Man 2 still regarded as one of the best superhero films to date.
The director also has an established background in horror, including the beloved horror trilogy “The Evil Dead,” “Evil Dead II,” and “Army of Darkness”, he could definitely bring a whole host of experience to the film.
