Pixar’s “Soul” heading to Disney+ this Christmas

Disney have announced that upcoming Pixar film Soul is heading straight to streaming service Disney+, just like Mulan – but without the hefty £19.99 price tag.

The studio confirmed the move of the theatrical release from 20 November to 25 December on Disney+.

Following the closures of Cineworld and Picturehouse cinemas in the UK due to shifting blockbuster dates, this spells even more bad news for the industry. Soul‘s release date wasn’t initially part of the mass delays, unlike the complete Marvel slate, especially following the blow of Bond.

Interestingly this may just spell the delay of Warner Bros’ highly anticipated Wonder Woman sequel, as that is currently also slated for a Christmas release.

“We are thrilled to share Pixar’s spectacular and moving ‘Soul’ with audiences direct to Disney+ in December,” said Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Chapek. “A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion, and this truly heartwarming and humorous story about human connection and finding one’s place in the world will be a treat for families to enjoy together this holiday season.”
