Netflix has officially ordered a 10 hour long episode run of the Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s comic series adaptation of Locke & Key, which was originally published at IDW Publishing. The series was originally in production at competitor Hulu, but the streaming service surprisingly passed on the pilot!
Netflix will be redeveloping and recasting the Hulu take, and has a brand new creative team behind the show. Meredith Averill (The Good Wife) has joined the show as co-showrunner alongside Carlton Cuse. Aaron Eli Coleite will be executive producing and also a re-wrote the pilot episode alongside comic creator Joe Hill.
Locke & Key is a horror/fantasy comic book series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them an array of powers. Little do they know that a devious demon also wants the keys and will stop at nothing to attain them.
Lindsey Springer for Cuse’s production company Genre Arts will executive produce alongside David Alpert and Rick Jacobs of Circle of Confusion. Andy and Barbara Muschietti (IT, Mama) will executive produce alongside Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment.
