I’ve been a fan of the X-Men for a really long time. From way back to the 90’s cartoon which had some fantastic storylines, right up to the live action films we have had up to now (Yes, even X-Men Apocalypse).
While there have been a few misses (Last Stand and Apocalypse I’m looking at you) the rest have been really good, in my humble opinion. I think it’s safe to say my top 3 X-Men films in no particular order are:
1. Days of Future Past
3. X-Men: First Class
I really enjoyed the others but these three really stood out for me.
Now that the deal between Fox and Disney has been sorted, and the T’s have been crossed and the I’s dotted, it does get me wondering what does the future hold for the X-Men characters. While pondering this over my lunch break (as you do), I started to wonder who could play certain characters if they were introduced into the MCU. And so for your reading pleasure, below is a my dream team of who I would like to see playing these awesome
1) Dylan O’Brien as Cyclops
2. Deborah Ann Woll as Rogue
And I’m not talking the watered down version of the character we have seen in the films so far. Oh no. I’m referring to the badass version from the cartoon and comics who can fly, beat the living crap out of pretty much anyone and is indestructible.
I’ve loved watching Deborah Ann Woll since she starred in ‘True Blood’ and thought she got even better in ‘Daredevil’ as Karen Page. I think she’s got exactly what’s needed.
3. Kate Mara as Jean Grey
I haven’t seen all of Kate Mara’s films so I’m only basing this on seeing her in ‘The Martian’ (one of my fav films of the last few years) and Fantastic Four (she was the best thing in it). I just think that her and O’Brien would be great together.
4. Jai Courtney as Wolverine
From this picture alone he looks the part don’t you think? When you add in his performance in ‘Suicide Squad’ as Captain Boomerang which I’m very happy he is apparently reprising in the James Gunn reboot/not sequel project, Terminator Genesis (terrible film but he does well in the action scenes) and then his role as the bad guy in ‘Jack Reacher’, I think he’d make a pretty cool Logan.
5. Jessica Henwick as Jubilee
There hasn’t been a great version of Jubilee in any of the X-Men films so far, so what better way to introduce her properly than have her played by Jessica Henwick and make her a total badass. If you are looking for a source to verify how badass she is then I suggest you watch this fight scene from season 2 of ‘Iron Fist’.
6. Danai Guirra as Storm
Yes I know she is both Michonne and Okoye in ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Black Panther’ respectively, but it’s for these very reasons that I think she would make a fantastic Ororo Munroe.
7. Benedict Cumberbatch as Charles Xavier
For no other reason than I believe he’d look brilliant with a bald, shiny head.
8. Jeffery Dean Morgan as Magneto
Love Mr Jeffrey Dean Morgan, in particular as Negan on ‘The Walking Dead’. I think he would be able to put a great spin on this already interesting character in the X-Men universe. Especially in scenes with Cumberbatch, it would make for some intense scenes.
9. David Harbour as Colossus
It’s David Harbour for chuff sake. I’d watch this guy play any character you can throw at him. He’s great in ‘Stranger Things’ especially with the emotional side of things. And judging by what I’ve seen in the trailers for ‘Hellboy’ he can definitely handle the action side of things. I would like to see a version of Colossus who changes from human to metallic form instead of the ‘Deadpool’ version where he never changes back.
10. Matthew McConaughey as Gambit
So this is my wild card for the list. Some people may see he is too old to play the Cajun but I’d like to see a grizzled veteran version of gambit on screen and I think Mr Alright Alright Alright would do a stellar job.
Well that’s my list and I hope you enjoyed having a read through, although I bet for more than few you were going “Oh come on, that person would be terrible at that role. It should be……”
I’d love to hear who you would like to see play some of your favourite characters.
