In the latest Avengers: Endgame trailer, we see a key moment between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in which Tony asks Cap, “do you trust me?” And Cap responds, “I do.” Considering the history between these two characters from Captain America: Civil War, when Tony learnt Steve’s oldest friend Bucky killed his parents when controlled by HYDRA and Steve knew about it, you can understand that their relationship was a bit rocky in Avengers: Infinity War.
But that key moment in the new trailer filled me with hope that despite their differences, these two can come together and team up to defeat Thanos. Well, turns out that part might not actually be in the final cut according to the Russo Brothers!
Marvel recently held a press junket for Avengers: Endgame at the weekend in L.A and Fox 5 -DC movie news correspondent Kevin McCarthy sat down with the directors to chat all things Avengers. He began to ask them about this scene, as it’s his favourite moment from the most recent trailer, with Anthony Russo commenting: “Well, it’s an amazing moment, but we can’t go into too much detail,” before he was cut off by Joe Russo who confessed, “That scene isn’t in the movie. You know, how we tell people we manipulate the trailers to obfuscate what happens in these films…”
Obviously McCarthy was disappointed, before Anthony responded: “The relationship between Tony and Steve Rogers is a relationship we’ve been following closely for a long time. That is a special story arc.” With Joe responding, “Maybe [that scene] is in the movie.”
