In a recent Twitter Q&A James Gunn confirmed that fans of the hugely popular Guardians of the Galaxy series can expect the third installment to be released in 2020. Marvel Studios currently have three untitled movies scheduled for 2020 – the first is set for May 1st, the second for August 7 and the third for November 6. Going by the two film’s previous release date, I’d be going for the May 1st release date.
The director also went on to confirm that he wouldn’t bring Yondu back to life as long he’s directing the series and that he’s not really interested in bringing in any X-Men/newer Guardians members to the film i.e. The Thing, Kitty Pryde or Agent Venom. “As of today, I wouldn’t find adding any of those characters interesting. I really am more of a fan of the [Dan] Abnett/[Andy] Lanning stuff as opposed to the stuff that came after the movie or first screenplay.”
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2′, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.
