First trailer released for Greta Gerwig’s ‘Little Women’

At last, the long awaited trailer for Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel Little Women, is finally here!

Our first look at the footage introduces us to the four March sisters; Jo (Saoirse Ronan), Meg (Emma Watson), Amy (Florence Pugh) and Beth March (Eliza Scanlen), as well as their mother Marmee (Laura Dern), their Aunt March (Meryl Streep) and the Laurie (Timothée Chalamet), reuniting Gerwig with Lady Bird stars Ronan and Chalamet.

The film appears to be the most feminist take on the source material, with the fantastic speech delivered by Ronan’s Jo “Women, they have minds and they have souls as well as just hearts, and they’ve got ambition and they’ve got talent as well as just beauty. And I’m so sick of people saying that love is just all a women is fit for.”

Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms — is both timeless and timely.

Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbour Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

Little Women is set for UK release on December 26.
