Thanks to Entertainment Weekly we’ve got the first official image of Michael Fassbender and co-star Ariane Labed from the upcoming film adaptation of the ridiculously popular Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed games. So far we’ve only seen a promotional photo of Fassbender dressed up in full assassin gear and some on set photos of the star, so this is pretty exciting!
Speaking to EW, Fassbender admits he’d not played the game prior to signing up for the part! “I’ve played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character. We’re striving to find something special. We believe the whole concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can. The fans are really passionate: very specific and they expect accuracy and historical detail. We’re really trying to capitalize and feed on and enjoy the fun element. We’re working hard to make this something special.”
Fassbender also talks about the physicality of the role and how he’s been training on set. “A lot of the stuff in the game is Parkour,” Fassbender explains. “Blades attached to his wrists. It’s about getting in close to the target, close quarters fighting. I’ve learned how to roly poly, tumble turn, stuff you can do in everyday life. Like cartwheels. No — just basic fight choreography stuff. I did some horse stuff today.’ Sounds, urm, promising?!
The synopsis for the film on IMDb is:
When Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) explores the memories of his ancestor Aguilar and gains the skills of a Master Assassin, he discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society.
Assassin’s Creed re-unites Fassbender with Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard, and also includes Brendan Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, Jeremy Irons, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed. The film is set to land on 21st December 2016 in US cinemas.
