Christopher Nolan Heads to France For Dunkirk
According to Variety Christopher Nolan’s next project is set to be a World War II film named “Dunkirk” with Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy in talks to star in the ensemble.
Nolan will direct the film from his own original screenplay and will produce it with his longtime producer partner and wife, Emma Thomas.
The story will be set during the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the Northern French city in the second World war, this operation was code-named Operation Dynamo.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time,” said Greg Silverman, president, Creative Development and Worldwide Production. “‘Dunkirk’ is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen.”
Nolan will film Dunkirk using a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film for ‘maximum image quality and high-impact immersion. Shooting for the film is scheduled to begin in May with most of Dunkirk being filmed in the real locations of where the true-life events took place. Warner Bros. has scheduled the release date for July 21st 2017.
