According to The Hollywood Reporter, Agent Carter will not return for a third series on ABC as the network cancels the Marvel drama.
While the show received plenty of critical praise, the second series only achieved 4.3 million total viewers (including DVR) which is a series-low for the show. The rating figures for Agent Carter are also only a fraction of the total viewership for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
In addition to the low ratings, star Hayley Atwell has also signed up as the lead for ABC’s new procedural series,Conviction, which affects her availability to film both shows.
On top of that blow, ABC has also announced that they have passed on picking up the planned Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted, which was set to star Adrianne Palicki (aka Mockingbird) and Nick Blood, reprising their roles as Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter following their departure from the flagship series earlier this year.
This leaves just one Marvel show remaining on ABC’s 2016-2017 lineup, with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D entering its fourth season. Whether Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter will return to the series has yet to be announced, but it will definitely be a shame if the pair (who were many fan’s favorites) don’t return.
