Two more ‘Game of Thrones’ animated projects in the works at HBO Max

With a number of spinoff Game of Thrones live-action series currently in development for streaming service HBO Max, including House Targaryen prequel House of the Dragon and Tales of Dunk & Egg, the streamer is reportedly working on two more potential animated shows.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, only one of the two animated shows has any real details attached to it, and will delve into The Golden Empire of Yi Ti (based in continent of Essos). The society is considered to be one of the oldest and most advanced societies in author and creator George RR Martin’s sprawling fantasy realm and is inspired by Imperial China.

Yi Ti has only really briefly been reference in the main Game of Thrones series, however a character in the upcoming series House of the Dragon, is reportedly connected to it. Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka the “Sea Snake,” famously sailed to Yi Ti – so if the project was to go ahead – it would make sense to set the stage in the prequel.

The site also went on to confirm that one of the concepts for a planned live-action spinoff series has unfortunately been shelved. Flea Bottom, based on life in the infamous King’s Landing slum, will not be moving ahead to the development stage according to the publications sources.
