Warner Bros. has reportedly set the release date of the upcoming female superhero film Birds of Prey, which is set to be directed by Cathy Yen, for the 7th February 2020. The studio has also announced the plans to release the film in IMAX.
Margot Robbie is set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn, which she first appeared in Suicide Squad, and will be joined by characters Black Canary and Huntress. It was recently announced that multiple high profile actresses have been auditioning for the two roles, including Black Mirror actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Scott Pilgrim vs The World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, with a second round of auditions taking place this week.
The Birds of Prey team initially comprised of Dinah Lance/Black Canary and Barbara Gordon, who was known as Oracle at the time, but has expanded to include many team members since the formation. The title series reportedly began with Chuck Dixon’s one shot titled Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey in November 1995, with Gail Simone taking over the series in 2003 and adding Huntress to the lineup.
Cathy Yen is lined up to direct Birds of Prey with Christina Hodson on writing duties and Margot Robbie set to produce.
