Greg Berlanti’s live action Titans series has finally found it’s Nightwing! Deadline has just confirmed that Brenton Thwaites will be suiting up as Dick Grayson, the Teen Titan’s leader.
The Australian actor has most recently starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales as William Turner’s son, Henry. You may also recognise him from Gods of Egypt and Oculus.
Geoff Johns released the following statement commenting on their choice: “Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have,” Johns said. “Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans’ future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”
Most people know Dick Grayson as Batman’s younger sidekick, Robin. Dick’s parents were murdered during their high flying circus act so Bruce Wayne took the him in and trained him to fight at his side in Gotham. Dick eventually grew out of Batman’s shadow and took up the mantle of Nightwing, protector of Blüdhaven and leader of the Teen Titans.
This casting follows the previous additions of Anna Diop as Starfire and Teagan Croft as Raven.
Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire, Raven and others.
