According to The Hollywood Reporter, four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the highly anticipated Captain Marvel!
Bening’s role was first described vaguely as “scientist”, but new reports from Variety hint that she’s set to be playing Carol Danvers’ mother, which could prove that the film will be exploring Danvers’ childhood in more detail than previously thought.
Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as the titular role, is set to be the first female-led Marvel film, added to that the director Anna Boden is also the first female director in the MCU. The film is set in the 90s and focuses on the Air Force pilot Brie Larson whose DNA fuses with that of an alien in an accident, and will heavily feature the alien race, the Kree.
Set for release in the US on March 8, 2019, Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The film stars Academy Award® winner Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
